Promising fullback Jack Wighton has re-signed with Canberra until the end of the 2018 NRL season.

After a strong 2015, coach Ricky Stuart has repaid the 22-year-old's effort with a two-year contract extension.

Wighton switched from centre to fullback at the tail end of the 2014 season and has been mentioned in dispatches as a future NSW State of Origin representative.

Last week Stuart described Wighton as one of the club's "big three" along with halves Blake Austin and Aidan Sezer.

Wighton is seen as a central plank of Stuart's plan to rebuild the team after missing the finals the last three years.

"We've got a great squad here and I know if we keep working hard we can have plenty of success over the next few years," Wighton said.

Wighton said he now felt comfortable in the No.1 jersey after spending all of 2015 at the back.

"It took me a while to find my feet playing fullback, but after a year there I feel like I've found a home and I can't wait to start the new season," Wighton said.

"Ricky has been great for my development as a player and I really love the squad we have here at the moment."

The Raiders last week announced the re-signing of centre Joey Leilua. Queensland forward Josh Papalii and England hooker Josh Hodgson are expected to follow suit soon.
